Are the barrels on all non super magnum Remington 870s interchangeable?
I would like a decent home defense shotgun but I like the look of wood more than the black synthetic look that most HD/tactical shotguns seem to have. Can I buy an 870 with a longer barrel to use for recreational shooting, and then buy a separate 18″ barrel from Remington for the home? Or am I stuck with the black synthetics? Is there a Mossberg model that fits the bill? Also looking at the Marine Magnum but I’m not sure if it only fires super magnum shells or if it can fire the smaller 2 .75 & 3 inch shells. I’m kind of a noob so your advice is greatly appreciated.
Yes, you can interchange barrels on the Remington 870.
Don’t buy something that fores the 3 1/2″ shell unless you do alot of duck hunting. It’s just not worth it otherwise. But you can fire shorter shells in a gun chambered for longer ones, not the other way around.
Buy a regular one you like and pick up a HD barrel
Here’s some links for different barrels that will work with a 870
