"I can recycle the scaffolding steel pipes encased in concrete to make a stronger beam.?
Instead of buying steel bars for traction reinforce the concrete, I wonder if I can recycle effectively scaffold tubes that are currently on my roof.
Maybe, but I can not think of two reasons why it could be unwise. First, the reinforcement bars are grooved to provide a key between the concrete and steel bars while the scaffolding is much softer. This leads me to believe that the scaffolding bars, weight for weight, not be as effective as rebar and not have as much to reinforce the action as you think. In extreme cases, could end up with a reinforced concrete beam in which fragile – concrete is usually reinforced little more deliberately so that the behavior like the failure is ductile, as it gives you time to escape. Secondly, scaffolding bars are hollow and solid rebar. In concrete, the alkalinity of the paste cement helps protect the reinforcement from corrosion – the reason for the specification of a minimum cover – but inside the bars of the scaffolding that do not benefit from this and I worry about the risk of shorter life due to oxidation of the internal surface. At least when rebar rust tends to spall the concrete cover, that we see happening.
