I have an old sewing machine. The Patent dates start on march 11th 1880. The brand is White Family Rotary?
The patent date ends Sept. 12th 1905. It is black with weird designs in gold. It’s not in the best condition. If any one could tell me when this machine was made and if it’s worth anything it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
White Sewing Machines are still around, and can probably give you a more accurate date for it:

If it’s electric, it’s probably worth $0-20 in my part of the world… treadle, maybe as high as $100.

Tattoo Machines | How to Choose the Right Machine for You
Choosing your first couple of tattoo machines can be a mind-boggling process, especially if you don’t have a mentor to guide you, so this article hopes to clear up a few of the questions you may have if you’re starting out as a tattoo artist.
First things first, you need to decide if you want to use a rotary machine or a coil machine. Most artists prefer coil, but rotary machines have their supporters too.
Rotary machines are lighter than traditional irons – meaning you can work longer with them, and they’re also virtually silent, making for a less stressful experience for first time clients! They’re also used for both lining and shading but cannot be personalized in the same way a coil machine can, which makes some tattoo artists avoid them.
Assuming you’re going for a coil machine, you’ll need to choose the number of wraps your coils have. More wraps = more power. Basically, you need to remember the following:
8 Wrap: a liner used for intricate designs, fine lines and details and small areas
10 Wrap: versatile 2-in-1 machine which is adjustable so you can use it for general outlines as well as shading. (Many artists have two 10 wrap machines ready for use and set up as a liner and a shader)
12 Wrap: the most powerful coils – used for dense shading and large areas of solid colour
Next, consider what type of frame you want. Are you a fan of solid functionality or do you like your equipment to turn heads too? Also, which metal will you find easiest to handle and use for long periods of time? Most machines are made from a conductive metal such as copper, brass or iron and vary in weight and feel.
Important: if your budget allows, go for a machine that automates needle speed and pressure. This way the ink will penetrate the skin to the right depth, leaving a longer lasting result and letting you concentrate on the design you’re creating.
Finally, don’t take financial short cuts – get the best equipment you can afford as this will be evident in your work. Find the right machine for you by searching the web – there are hundreds of tattoo supplies companies out there, that way you can get a good overview of prices, styles and specifications.
