This has less friction: Two steel gears against each other, or a rubber wheel against the wood?
I want to build a chain of traction for a pedalo. The action of turning the pedals must be transferred by a turn 90 degrees for a shaft with propeller. Now I'm weighing the pros and cons of the use of steel gears to two cons putting a rubber wheel at the end the shaft and let it rest against a rotating disk of wood, driven by pedals. Which of the two systems, will you, will result in better effectiveness? I need this thing to turn nice and discretion. The boat is a canoe, and I hope to commute with her on a section water 8 miles long in each direction.
Steel gears have less friction, although you'd need to get the friction wheel rubber work. Favios right … there are so many more problems that can occur with the wheel and rubber wood, but it's a good idea. For reliability and sustainability, stick with steel.
