How can you knit with one hand?
I remember seeing pictures of people in Europe or knitting somewhere with a long needle and held under arms and a short needle in their hand. I'm having surgery on the hand and wonder if this could work for me so I not give up knitting for the summer. Does anyone know about this practice?
It sounds like you've seen pictures of knitters Shetland in the north of Great Britain who use what is called a belt of knitting. It is a pad tied around their waist with a double needle long and pointed, inserted in one of the openings. They manipulate the shorter needle in one hand while guiding the wire, usually with another.
