Damascus steel sword blades in question?

I understand that the Damascus steel sword was made by folding the strip of double Steele the heating, hammering, bending again and so hundreds of times. Was it the same or nearly the same techmique the japs used to make the blades of swords Samari sword? (Forgive the misspelling) I am aware of the complications that must be involved and it would be intresting to learn more about them!

Damascus: A folding technique where the steel is folded over itself many (usually up to sixteen) times, leading to hundreds or even thousands of layers (once = 2 layers, two folds = 4 layers, three folds = 8 layers, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048, 4096, etc..) More than sixteen folds are unnecessary, as the layers become thinner than a molecule – which is impossible. This method was developed to rid of impurities in the steel (it also removes carbon, which is bad, but can be compensated to some extent), but modern steel is so pure that the folding of Damascus is no longer necessary. It is now used for aesthetic reasons; Damascus steel is really good, you can see the layers of the blade. San Mai means "three layers". Layers of softer, lower carbon steel (or iron) is welded to build layers of harder, higher carbon steel. Lower forms of carbon steel core (and sometimes the sides and / or rear) and the highest forms of carbon steel edge. The hard edge will hold its sharpness, softer base provides shock absorption; to the sword more difficult to break. Unlike Damascus, San Mai is always handy. San folds May be invisible, so you can see once the May San forging was flawed and the blade should be discarded – you have to trust your seller that the blade is San Mai – you can not tell by looking. San Mai can be revealed by etching the blade with acid, like lemon juice, but I do not recommend trying unless you know what you do, you can permanently stain the blade. San swords Mai are more durable (and expensive) than just blades. They are more durable (and usually less costly) than Damascus blades. A blade can be either in May or San Damascus, or it can be both, of Damascus steel, which is then folded San May Very cool, good-looking and long lasting.
