Portable Desktop, powering LCD?

I am trying to build a computer for my dad, he wants a desktop but wants it to be as portable as possilbe.

So I have come up with an Idea. I am mounting the lot inside an aluminium briefcase, everything will fit quite well the only problem I am faced with is powering a LCD via the PSU for the computer (so there isn’t two chords), I was thinking about modifiying the wall plug to split in two, but I really don’t want to muck around with 240v, is there any sort of inverter or special LCD that can be powered directly from 12vdc, or can a normal monitor be modified to work from PSU. 17″ is about the right size, but He’s happy with anything.
also is there any LCD’s that are powered by an external adapter? if so what voltage (I will create my own switching regulator if need be) does it run at.

Why reinvent the wheel? Just buy your dad a laptop.
