How I can keep my head on a duck? ?
I want to ride the duck head first shot, only to have a silly ride. I like I want to do it myself, because I'm poor and cheap. It's in my freezer. "I can get a home taxidermy kit or something? How about just any way to remove the flesh and the skull and bill? (Does the bill putrefaction away, or is that bone? What do I do with the tongue?) Thank you very much for your help!
Here's the deal with mounting birds. You can do it cheaply. I used to do it myself and made a pretty reasonable job of it. To mount the birds, the condom is used borax. Just find a place that sells borax as an additive in laundry detergent and use it to preserve the skin. A Once the head is removed from the freezer, you can not dilly dally around. You have to start peeling the birds once they are defrosted, so that the muscle meat and not to start of putrefaction and deterioate. The best way to treat the skin of the head and neck is to try to get the neck muscle / bone / meat to the outside and try to get Wasy of the skin that holds the pen. If that fails, then the best way is best to use a sharp knife (scalpel, knife or Xacto knife) to cut the back of the neck and skull. This allows you to remove the muscle / meat from elsewhere. You have to remove as much meat as possible from within the skull. Furthermore, brain material from inside the skull. Once you have the meat and especially the brain removed, sprinkle the borax over everything. Be liberal in this regard. In the inisde skin and even abroad, of feathers. Let it sit for a day or two and repeat the process. The idea here is to let the meat cured with borax. When the skin is dried a little (but not too dry), will put a little clay on the skull of the duck to rebuild the areas where the meat was. You will also need obtain proper glass eyes to replace those cleared. (If you are just starting out, maybe find some small marbles and some glasses stones of an art and crafts store like Michael's stores). In order to reconstruct the neck, have a length of cable (such as a wire coat hanger) and some of those things that you used in Easter baskets. Placed easter basket filler around the wire and then wrap it with twine or small rope or wire to obtain the desired shape neck area. (The wire coat hanger serving as the backbone and the filling is meat quality and muscle.) Connect the cable to the base of the skull, the best may (before or after you wrap the padding around it. Then, gently and carefully pull the "layer" of the head and neck down on the skull and neck. If you cut the back of the neck and head, you have to sew back together using needle and thread. You may also need to use a little glue model around the eye sockets of the head to keep it firmly in place in the skull / head. A touch can finally be the painting of a duck bill to the appropriate color using a paint suitable oil. (Do not overdo this. The beak / bill will fade in color, so you have to paint again. But do not go by overboard with a paint color is too bright. So, here is your shopping list of things needed to mount a duck head on the very cheap (most of these things you probably already have) … Borax Two modeling clay marbles (or right eye glass) wire hanger Easter basket filled with needle and thread chain of oil paint and paint brush His first attempt hobby can not be something we'll want to diplay at the American Museum of Natural History. However, everyone must start somewhere. Good luck in your future projects taxidermy (plural).
