Who are some good Texas country artists?

I love Texas country and I want to find some new people to listen to.
Some that I listen to right now are:
Aaron Watson
Brandon Rhyder
Charlie Robison
Cory Morrow
Jason Boland & the Stragglers
Kevin Fowler
Randy Rogers Band
Roger Creager
Stoney LaRue
Texas Renegade
Zack Walther & the Cronkites

Thanks!

You are already listening to most of the essentials of Texas country. Congrats on excellent taste.

I am going to try to pair you with people based on who you like.

If you like the Randy Rogers Band, try Wade Bowen. He manages to pull off some really serious songs very well.

A good guy to check out if you like Aaron Watson is James Lann. I am not saying for a second he is as good as Aaron (I don’t think anyone today is), but my wife bought his cd after hearing him on a Texas country show and we liked him.

If you like Roger Creager, try Rodney Hayden. He is a bit more traditional than Roger, but has that rough voice we all look for. There was a singer named Ryan Turner that kind of reminded me of Roger, but I think he only did one album and I haven’t heard from him since.

If you like Charlie Robison, you probably appreciate great song writing. Try Chris Knight and Max Stalling. They don’t really sound anything like Charlie, but both of them are top notch song writers that I think anyone who gives them a chance will like.

If you like Zack Walther, you will probably like a North Texas group called the Bois D’arcs.

You should try Granger Smith, Darren Kozelsky, and Todd Fritsch. They are just all around great country music artists. I also enjoy Zona Jones, Ryan James, Walt Wilkins, and Trent Willmon.

Someone mentioned Deryl Dodd. He is a Texas honkey tonk legend. His music is great, though several songs you would have heard on the regular radio sang by someone else.

And make sure you are stocked up on the legends. Robert Earl Keen is a must, as is Pat Green’s stuff from before he went to Nashville. Jack Ingram’s older stuff is great too. If you like older sounding stuff, give Jerry Jeff Walker and Guy Clark some honest listens.

Finally, you don’t seem to be terribly into the semi-rock sound that alot of Texas Country groups have today. That is fine because most of them sound alike. However, I do enjoy Reckless Kelly, the Bart Crow Band, the Eli Young Band (again, their stuff from before they were discovered), Bleu Edmondson, and No Justice.

Tony Klimczak, Ron George and Cory Rogers
