Does a coil to be used as resistance and what are its advantages?
It seems that the resistance wasted energy is dissipated as heat.
In DC circuits, there is really no alternative to resistance. However, the coils can indeed be used in place of resistors in AC circuits and radio. Coils also resist current flow when the current is changing, if the resistance current flow rises as frequency increases. Coils are often used instead of resistors collection in RF (radio frequency) amplifiers. This maximizes power gain and maximum signal before clipping, and minimizes energy loss. coils are used in switching regulators. SIMPLIFIED, a switching regulator is a way to replace a resistor voltage decreases. Instead of an excess voltage / current is wasted as heat resistance, the voltage to a coil is closed and off quickly. The operating cycle (ratio of ON OFF time) is varied and regulated by a circuit so that voltage is maintained outside a regulated voltage. Except for small losses in the resistance wire coil and loss of heart, there is little power loss. The circuit essentially runs the voltage alternating current to the coil. Your computer uses a switching power supply that corrects the first line voltage to DC and smooth, then with a handful of transistors and integrated circuits and other components, converts the AC which is then transmitted to a small high frequency transformer that converts the voltage down and rectifies and smooths return to DC voltages. A transformer is used rather than just a coil so that the circuits in your computer are isolated from the line power. To differentiate the amount of a coil (or inductor) is resistant to current flow, it is called reactance. It is still measured in ohms and Ohm's law still applies. The reactance of a coil is equal to 2 times Pi times the inductance in Henries frequency times. The current lags 90 degrees behind the voltage applied. capacitors have an inverse relationship to frequency. The frequency increases, the reactance goes down. In addition, capacitors being conducted at 90 degrees ahead of the applied voltage. Because of this reverse reaction, something interesting happens when you put a capacitor and an inductor (coil) in a circuit and apply a frequency where the reactance of each is also the reactance cancel out. This is called a tuned circuit. In a circuit with a capacitor and inductor in parallel, the currents cancel because tensions in a parallel circuit are the same, if the currents are 180 degrees out of phase so they cancel and the circuit seems to be a very high impedance. When you combine resistance and reactance, it is called impedance. In a circuit with a capacitor and inductor in series tension to cancel it now because the current in a series circuit are the same, so tensions are 180 degrees out of phase and they cancel and the circuit seems a very low impedance. Parallel tuned circuits are used in radio frequency amplifiers and oscillators. Using the parallel circuit listening as a charge collector amplifier means it has the same load impedance higher gain boosting, but since the impedance falls rapidly as the frequency deviates from the agreement, it does not amplify the signals that are not within a few percent the tuning frequency.
